We thought we would put out a couple of ‘Xero tips’ for you each month to help you along.
I always say, let’s start with the basics!
The Dashboard Page:
- Do you know what the “+” sign is on the top right hand corner of your screen? It’s a short cut to lots of menus.
Here’s a list of what you can access by 2 clicks rather than several clicks.- Invoice
- Bill
- Contact
- Quote
- Purchase Order
- Manual Journal
- Spend Money
- Receive Money
- Transfer Money
- The “folder” icon next to the “+” sign, is where you can create folders for your electronic documents to store in Xero. Ever thought of having one called “2017 Year End documents for the accountant!” (your accountant would love you and charge you less probably!) or “ Creditors for December 2017” or “Loan documents”?

- Did you know you can organise your dashboard to suit what you see and how your work. You could re-order the bank, loan and credit card accounts. Click into the second menu along at the top Accounts, then Bank Accounts, on the bottom right of each account there are arrow and “change order”. Have a go and see how they move when you click on the arrows.

- Or use your account watch list to track those expenses you want to keep an eye on daily or weekly. All you need to do is click on the account watch list, it will bring up the list of general ledger accounts to view. Go into the one you want to display and there is an check box to tick at the bottom “show on Dashboard Watch list” – easy!

- If you want to add business performance graphs and results to your dashboard, there are many to choose from. To set this up go Reports, then click All Reports, under Financial, click to expand the section. Click on Business Performance. Click on the star next to the particular graph you would like to show on the dashboard eg Gross Profit %. You can easily see at a glance how you are tracking and dive further into the results if needed!
